Dreams to My Daughters, by Barack Obama

If I were to you what he was to me,

I would not approve of the life I'd led,

Charm justifies only to a degree,

Crashes aren't excused by a clever head.

If I were to you what I am to me,

Would you approve of the life I've led,

From the weight of my job I can't be free,

Because of me innocent men are dead.

I dream that you will not be he or me,

That we practiced war so you will know peace,

That you will be happy, diligent, free,

That from life's suff'ring there will be surcease.

I believe in Jesus, in Buddha, too.

My dreams if they live will best live in you.
