Reaffirmation ceremony

In the spirit of the Yin and the Yang, of the dark and the light, we come together to affirm mystery, gratitude, and commitment.

Mystery.

In mystery lies passion, truth, and beauty.

We affirm being together, and we affirm being apart.

We affirm being married, and we affirm not being married.

We affirm ourselves as a mystery.

Gratitude.

In our time together, we have fallen in love with people other than each other.

We are grateful to them, and always will be.

We are grateful for the pain we have felt and will feel, and we are grateful for the joy we have felt and will feel.

We are grateful to each other for being people who have loved people other than each other.

We are grateful for the finitude of our no-longer young lives and we are grateful for the plenitude of our lives.

Commitment.

We affirm ourselves as open to others, and as committed to each other.

We affirm ourselves as dedicated to questing for the new, and as committed to continuing the story we have been writing in the thirty-six years we have known each other.

We affirm ourselves as always dissatisfied, and always in love.

We affirm ourselves as soulmates forever, til death do us part.
